Janice Anthony is one of Maine's prominent artists. Her work has received critical acclaim and is finding its way into more and more important American collections. Her work has been included in many important exhibitions across this country, among them recent invitational exhibitions at the Arnot Art Museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.
Anthony's acrylics have a very special quality. They are somehow, indeed, much greater than the sum of their parts, or as Ken Greenleaf put it: "What Anthony's paintings have, as did the Hudson Painters, is a particular, identifiable idea embedded in the whole look of the work that transcends its mere utility as a visual representation of a place. They are about the spirit of a place as she understands or experiences it. |
